Bloomington 'tiny home' builder to be featured on TV show

Mary Shown, Herald-Times

A tiny home built in Bloomington will be featured next month on HGTV.

It wasn't Daniel Weddle’s first tiny home build, but it will be his first time on cable television.

He was first contacted by HGTV for the network's program "Tiny House, Big Living" late last fall, and was asked what houses he had in the works. Weddle owns Bloomington-based Carpenter Owl. Prices for tiny homes by Carpenter Owl range from $30,000 to $45,000 for a "four season home suitable for year-round living," according to model home prices for 2016 on the Bloomington company's website.

When one door closed on one project, another window opened and now the tiny house construction will be aired in November.

The 300-square-foot tiny house is named "Honey on the Rock."

The house features a spiral staircase, a signature different variation wood ceiling, copper piping and sink, a breakfast bar, an outdoor bathtub and more.

"Honey on the Rock" took 14 weeks to construct from start to finish, with about 13 people assisting with the construction. Weddle called on more people to help with the tiny home that would be seen by a national audience. A typical build has Weddle and one other person working on a new tiny house.
