Three Allen County companies receive tax breaks for expansions

Linda Lipp, Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly

Tax abatements were awarded quickly May 22 to three Fort Wayne companies that pledged together to create 69 new jobs through their proposed investments.

The Fort Wayne City Council introduced and approved all three in a matter of just a few minutes with no questions or debates.

Advanced Cutting Systems was awarded an abatement on an investment of $784,000 to install new manufacturing equipment at its plant at 4030 Piper Drive. According to documents filed with the City Council, the investment will help create 12 new jobs and retain 40 existing jobs with an average annual salary of $37,500.

Vita Nonwovens requested and received an abatement for a $19 million investment to expand and add new equipment at 9403 Avionics Drive. The company said in its tax-abatement request that it would add 22 new, full-time jobs with an average salary of almost $42,000 and retain 86 full-time and 32 part-time jobs.

Alconex Specialty Products was awarded an abatement on a proposed investment of $7 million for new manufacturing and research and development technology at 7255 Chalfant Road. The company estimated it would create 35 new jobs with annual wages of about $29,300 and retail 71 other full-time jobs.

Alconex makes wire and custom extruded products.
