GOSHEN — The Elkhart County Redevelopment Commission will look at a menu of projects it could fund with the expansion of a Cleveland Township special taxing district.
The commission agreed in September to take property between the Indiana Toll Road and John Weaver Parkway and include it in the Northwest Gateway Tax Increment Finance District. It will have its first look today at the resolution to add the land to the TIF, as well as a bond issue that would take advantage of the extra property value to fund infrastructure projects in the area.
The three properties include two on the north side of the intersection of John Weaver Parkway and C.R. 6 and one at the southwest corner of the intersection. Forest River has plans for one of the properties, but it’s only a matter of time before the rest is developed, County Plan Director Chris Godlewski said ahead of the meeting.
The properties are also going to be annexed by the City of Elkhart, which must be done before 2019 because cities can’t annex land in a precensus year, Godlewski said Wednesday, and the county has to act to put the land in a TIF district before the annexation.
List of projects
Commission members will look at a list of projects the bond could fund, which Godlewski said was put together to give them an idea of the maximum bond amount to approve.
